[heirloom tomatoes, Italian plums and yellow nectarines, tomatoes, lettuce, shishito peppers, radishes, squash, and leeks]

When I first got the shares email, I thought the peppers would be bell peppers. I thought I’d make another ratatouille with them. I went to pick them up today, though, I saw that they were shishito peppers, and that there was a surprise squash! With all of the extra tomatoes I’ve been getting (I think I regret signing up for extra heirloom tomatoes—there are too many!), I really needed to make something with nightshades.

So: shishito ratatouille. I used 10 peppers in place of bell peppers, leeks in place of onions, the surprise squash, last week’s eggplant, 4 giant tomatoes, and some non-CSA garlic. I threw it in a pot and hoped for the best. The results were great! There was heat, but not too much, and it had a more savory flavor than usual. Plus it smelled like pizza while it was cooking. I highly recommend trying it out.
