My white whale! A thing I have always wanted to cook since going vegan forever ago, but never have purely out of fear of difficulty + fucking it up (same with kneaded bread, which I did fuck up and haven’t tried again). Not to mention fear of being immobilized by onion fumes.

And here we are, on a Sunday evening, successfully having made French onion soup from the onions from my CSA, with very few tears, and maybe some unfortunate toasted cheese that didn’t melt properly (in my experience, only one brand does, and it’s a little too sweet for daily use). And now I have a new soup in my repertoire.

I also made more Rainier cherries in syrup. I picked up the cherries from the store when they were on sale. I got two full pints and two quarter pints out of this batch, and will likely need to make more, given how much of a favorite they were in my household last year.

With the asparagus from the CSA and some beets and radishes from the farmers market, I made a batch of pickles. I don’t think I’ve pickled asparagus before (or eaten), so I’m curious to see how they’ll turn out. It’ll be a couple days, but it will be a fun surprise.
